to Chicago Nonprofits within 3 Years
CHICAGO, IL, February 22, 2006 -
The Taproot Foundation announced today the opening of its Chicago office that will engage local business professionals in pro bono service to strengthen the nonprofit sector. The national nonprofit’s Midwest office plans to award $800,000 in pro bono services to local nonprofits in 2006 and then $2,400,000 in 2007 and $4,000,000 in 2008.
“The Chicago business community has a remarkable ethic of civic engagement,” said Ashoka Fellow Aaron Hurst, president and founder of the Taproot Foundation. “We hope to play a role in channeling that civic ethic to provide the pro bono labor the nonprofit sector needs to fulfill its critical role in the community.”
The focus for the foundation’s first year in Chicago will be on providing pro bono marketing services to 20 local nonprofits. Given the funding challenges facing many of these organizations, marketing plays a crucial role in diversifying and expanding funding. Starting in 2007, the support will expand into human resource and information technology services.
