#GivingTuesday is about time and talent too

It’s #GivingTuesday 2014, and we’re excited.

We’re excited for all the usual reasons: good nonprofits getting attention; people giving back; holiday cheer meaning more than Cyber Monday deals; and hey, it’s December 2 and not yet sleeting in New York! (At least not until this afternoon.)

But this year, we’re also excited because giving means more than money, to more people. #GivingTuesday 2014 and Taproot have partnered closely to expand the definition of giving to include donation of professional skills. See Taproot’s short toolkit on pro bono service in their set of helpful resources.

And Billion + Change, which works to transform business culture by encouraging all companies to give back with pro bono service, also released a toolkit (developed with Blackbaud and Riggs Partners) specifically for small businesses, which make up 49% of the US workforce and can make a big difference with pro bono. Their tips for small businesses include:

  • Tap into the skills that your employees are uniquely qualified to offer
  • Attract new employees and retain top talent through employee engagement
  • Help your company and its employees find personal fulfillment and purpose through volunteerism
  • Get access to small business case studies of innovative skills-based volunteer programs

I know all the pro bono junkies out there love this just as much as Taproot does! Cheers to a holiday season kickoff that celebrates the donation of time and talent as much as money.

Check out Taproot+, where we’re making it even easier to give or to get high-quality pro bono service.
