California Form 199 Filing and Tax Compliance Support
This is a focused, one-year engagement (2023 filing) with a clear knowledge-transfer goal. We are looking for someone with experience in nonprofit accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping, or compliance to help us:
- Review our 2023 IRS Form 990 and identify the financial and organizational data needed for CA Form 199
- Walk us through how 990 line items map to the corresponding CA 199 fields and schedules
- Help us complete and review a draft of the 2023 CA Form 199 together, so our team understands each step
Our goal is not just to get the 2023 form filed — it's to come away with a clear understanding of the process so we can confidently handle future years on our own. We want a volunteer who is willing to teach as they work, and help us build internal capacity rather than ongoing dependency.
If you have nonprofit tax experience and enjoy helping organizations become more self-sufficient, we'd love to connect.
This project will help us:
Maintain state nonprofit compliance
Improve financial transparency and accountability
Strengthen organizational infrastructure
Increase readiness for future funding opportunities
Reduce administrative barriers that divert time from mission-driven work
The volunteer’s support will have a direct impact on our ability to sustain and grow our programs. By helping us organize and complete years of required filings, they will contribute to the long-term health and effectiveness of our organization and the communities we serve.
Volunteers joining this project will not only provide technical expertise—they will help create stability and capacity that allows our organization to continue advancing its mission with confidence.
To support a successful partnership, we will:
Provide organized digital copies of our Form 990 and supporting financial documents
Designate a primary point of contact for communication and coordination
Maintain a consistent meeting schedule and timely follow-up
Clearly define priorities, timelines, and filing goals at the start of the project
Implement the systems and recommendations developed through the engagement
We recognize that volunteers are contributing valuable professional expertise, and we are committed to being responsive, prepared, and collaborative throughout the engagement.
