Ready to make a difference this fall? You can create meaningful impact for nonprofits in need with just a few hours of your time! Volunteers from a variety of backgrounds are needed to help create real solutions for organizations doing vital work on housing, social justice, education, poverty, healthcare, sustainability, and more.
Taproot is now recruiting volunteers for two virtual events hosted in partnership with our foundation partners, Porticus North America and Greer Foundation. Volunteers will provide capacity-building support by brainstorming new ideas to help organizations tackle challenges. Each event will include focused, solutions-driven sessions that create real solutions for our communities. Read on to learn about each event and how you can apply!
Greer Foundation Pro Bono Marathon
- Thursday, September 19 and Thursday, September 26 from 12 pm–4 pm CST
- Virtual via video conferencing platform
The Greer Foundation supports programs focused on social justice, including violence prevention, poverty, ecology, healthcare, and preserving indigenous practices. Since first partnering in 2014, Taproot and the Greer Foundation have delivered nearly $1.5 million in pro bono resources to the Greer grantees.
This Pro Bono Marathon will include nonprofits in Illinois that are supported by the Greer Foundation. Teams of up to four volunteers will be grouped based on their skillsets to tackle challenges related to financial management, strategy, data analysis, marketing, HR, operations, and technology. During two half-day sessions, volunteers will collaborate with nonprofit leaders to develop customized solutions and high-impact, actionable deliverables.

Porticus North America Speed Consulting
- Thursday, October 24 from 12 pm–3 pm EST
- Virtual via video conferencing platform
Porticus North America is committed to creating a just and sustainable future where human dignity flourishes. They support organizations throughout the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Haiti and Mexico that strengthen the resilience of communities so that all people have ownership over their future. For nearly a decade, Taproot has provided Porticus partners with high-quality, high-impact pro bono services to increase their organizational capacity and effectiveness in serving their communities.
Speed consulting events function like “office hours” where nonprofits can access the insights and advice of skilled volunteers to tackle their most pressing organizational issues. Participants come away with guidance, high-level recommendations, and next steps to tackle their challenges.
Taproot is recruiting skilled volunteers with a background in strategy or marketing and communications for this half-day event. Volunteers will work in small groups working with two nonprofits in two separate short sessions to offer timely and targeted support.

For each program, Taproot staff will curate volunteer teams based on skillset, background, and nonprofit needs, so your application does not automatically guarantee participation. We ask that you hold the dates for the program you are applying for and we will be in touch by mid-August for Greer and early September for Porticus if you are invited to participate. Thank you for your interest!
