Resiliency Pro Bono Project Highlight: Leadership Coaching

Communities can always rely on nonprofits to lead rebuilding and recovery efforts in crises big and small. But many of these social change organizations are now facing shifts in traditional funding and decreased access to in-person volunteer support, despite being called on to address ever-growing community needs this year. Pro bono can help your nonprofit prepare to face whatever the world throws at us in the future.

We’re breaking down our nonprofit resource, Building Resiliency Through Pro Bono, project by project to highlight how connections with skilled volunteers can help your team strengthen their leadership skills and invest in the future of your nonprofit. You can check out our previous project highlights on board recruitment strategy and HR assessment, and read our latest project highlight on leadership coaching below.

How will leadership coaching help my organization build resiliency?

Prepare your staff leaders and board members for managing effectively in difficult situations by investing in their professional development. Consult with coaches skilled in areas such as change management, remote team oversight, building or maintaining organizational culture, and more. Ensure your leaders are as prepared as possible to navigate a crisis or major shifts in program delivery by building up their empathy, agility, and decision-making skills.

72% of nonprofits report shifts in program or service delivery due to the pandemic.

How long will this project take to complete?

A typical pro bono leadership coaching project can take 25-40 hours to wrap up. We always remind nonprofits to keep in mind that your volunteer partner will be sharing around three to five hours of their time with your team per week.

Any other tips for making the most of this pro bono project?

Setting clear expectations for communications is vital for HR-related projects. Establish communications preferences at the outset, speak candidly, and discuss how you’ll get and give feedback so you can avoid any bumps in the road.
