People of Pro Bono: Lan Jensen, Adaptable Security

People of Pro Bono: Lan Jensen, Adaptable Security

Lan will know that her nonprofit has truly made it when her friends use Adaptable Security’s tools regularly to check security ratings before making a purchase. To reach that milestone, pro bono has been helping drive forward Lan’s innovative mission and goals.

It’s easier to adapt than to get hacked

According to recent research, 60% of us have lost sensitive personal information to data breaches. Adaptable Security (Ada for short) is out to change that by providing much-needed visibility, awareness, and consulting for organizations and consumers to better protect important information as mandated by US laws and regulations on a local and national level. We do that by educating nonprofits, small businesses, and individuals through our free security ratings and affordable consultative services. Ada gives consumers assurance, knowledge, and an active voice when it comes to online security. Our goal: to leave the world a better place than what we inherited. We’ll know that we’ve done our small part when the majority of people feel confident that their sensitive digital information is protected.

Hitting the ground running

My organization sought out pro bono support right after our inception. Since we are brand new, we needed expert advice and technical skills to implement the new ideas and designs coming from our staff and volunteers. We found amazing talent through Taproot Plus and dove into a few projects with our skilled volunteers. After around 800 hours of pro bono support, we now have a website, a marketing strategy, and a freshly developed product ready for beta launch. Taproot Plus provided all the human resources that our low-budget nonprofit needed to hit the ground running.

Our experience rocked

To put it simply, our experience with Taproot and their pool of skilled volunteers rocked. Taproot helped us use pro bono service by connecting us with skilled volunteers, sharing best practices, and conduct periodic status checking. They were our personal fairy godmother throughout the entire process. Next on the horizon for us, we’ll be working with skilled pro bono professionals on our funding model and other strategic planning tasks.

I especially want to give a heartfelt thank you to those who volunteer their time and talents pro bono. Your work for organizations like mine makes the world go round. You are the heart that pumps kindness and love into the world.
