Dallas Hope Charities is looking for a skilled volunteer to transcribe resident interviews and develop compelling stories based on those interviews. These stories will highlight the experiences of LGBTQIA+ young adults who have overcome housing insecurity through our transitional living program.

We have 14 recorded interviews, each ranging from 30 to 60 minutes, and need transcriptions to create 19 impactful resident stories (300–500 words each). These stories will be used to engage donors, increase awareness of LGBTQIA+ youth homelessness, and showcase the transformative impact of our programs.

A volunteer will transcribe audio files, craft resident stories from transcripts, and collaborate with our team to ensure messaging aligns with our mission. This project is perfect for someone with writing, editing, and storytelling skillswho is comfortable handling sensitive narratives with care and confidentiality.

How will a Taproot volunteer help?
A volunteer will:
✅ Transcribe resident interviews from audio recordings into text.
✅ Draft compelling narratives (19 total) based on interview content.
✅ Refine and edit stories for clarity, impact, and alignment with our mission.
✅ Collaborate with our team to ensure messaging resonates with our audience.
✅ Advise on best practices for storytelling to enhance engagement.

Time Commitment & Duration
We estimate this project will take 66 to 141 hours total, depending on transcription efficiency and writing experience. A volunteer can expect to dedicate 2–5 hours per week over several weeks to help complete the transcriptions and draft the stories. The schedule is flexible and can be adjusted based on availability.

Impact of this Project
By lending your time and expertise, you’ll help amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ young adults who have faced homelessness, ensuring their stories inspire empathy, action, and support. Your contributions will strengthen our ability to connect with donors, educate the community, and provide essential services to those in need.

At Dallas Hope Charities, our mission is to provide food, shelter, and services that instill dignity, stability, and hope for LGBTQIA+ young adults experiencing housing insecurity. Sharing resident stories is a key part of this work, allowing us to raise awareness, engage donors, and demonstrate the life-changing impact of our programs.

The stories developed through this project will be integrated into donor communications, fundraising efforts, grant applications, and social media storytelling—ensuring that the voices of our residents are heard and their journeys inspire meaningful action.

We are ready to implement these stories immediately and are committed to a smooth collaboration. Your contributions will play a vital role in helping us continue to provide hope, stability, and a brighter future for LGBTQIA+ youth facing homelessness.
To ensure a smooth and successful collaboration, we will provide the volunteer with:

✅ Clear Project Scope & Timeline – We will outline expectations, deliverables, and a realistic timeline for transcriptions and story development, ensuring the workload is manageable within their weekly availability.

✅ Access to Audio Files & Supporting Materials – The volunteer will receive secure access to recorded interviews (each 30–60 minutes long) and any relevant background information on our organization’s mission, resident experiences, and storytelling guidelines.

✅ Storytelling & Messaging Guidance – We will provide previously developed resident stories that can serve as examples.

✅ Regular Check-ins & Support – We will schedule weekly check-ins (15-30 min) via Zoom or email to discuss progress, answer questions, and provide feedback, ensuring the volunteer feels supported and has all necessary resources.

✅ Collaboration Tools – We will use Google Drive to streamline transcription, editing, and feedback processes. Volunteers will have access to a dedicated folder containing interview files, transcriptions, story drafts, and other relevant materials, making collaboration seamless and organized.

✅ Recognition & Appreciation – As a valued partner in amplifying the voices of our residents, the volunteer will receive acknowledgment in our donor and impact reports (if desired), a letter of appreciation, and an opportunity to see how their work directly contributes to our mission.

With clear expectations, structured support, and ongoing communication, we are committed to making this project a meaningful and rewarding experience for both our volunteer and the communities we serve.

Organization Mission

Dallas Hope Charities provides food, shelter, and services that instill dignity, stability, and Hope For All. Dallas Hope Charities unites to care for those in need throughout our social and geographical communities. By collaborating and hosting several programs, we are fulfilling our mission of providing food, shelter, and services that instill dignity, stability, and Hope For All. We are proud to operate Dallas Hope Center™, the city’s LGBTQ-focused homeless youth transitional living center and extension program. By helping provide inclusive spaces for at-risk, homeless LGBTQ youth (18 to 24), we hope to change the lives of those who experience high rates of conduct disorder, post-traumatic stress, and suicidal behavior. In June 2020, we launched Collective Hope Coalition™, an initiative aimed at eliminating suicide among LGBTQ community in the Dallas area. Dallas Hope Charities is working with the Dallas Police Department through the Safe Place program to spread awareness and education in the community by encouraging victims to report ALL crimes, especially hate crimes, in hopes of reducing the risk of suicide within our LGBTQ+ community. The Safe Place program will help bring the LGBTQ+ community, the Dallas Police Department, local businesses, social organizations, and education centers together to create a safe place and city for all. We are working to develop Hopeful Discussions, a series that is geared toward reducing homophobia by increasing understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and issues to educate and build a more inclusive community. With your help, through volunteering and donations, we can help end hopelessness and create change in the community.
