Shape a Nonprofit's Board Recruitment Strategy

My goal is to receive support from a skilled volunteer to strengthen my leadership capacity through strategic board development. The goal is to build a more aligned, diverse, and mission-driven board of directors who can actively support our fundraising efforts, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability. Specifically, I would like assistance in developing a board recruitment strategy, defining board member roles and expectations, and creating a clear onboarding and engagement process.

Coaching on how to attract and retain values-aligned board members who are deeply committed to the organization's social justice mission will be especially valuable.

The Pembroke Taparelli Arts and Film Festival (PTAFF) exists to amplify voices from underrepresented, marginalized communities and use the arts as a powerful tool for social justice. Our mission requires a leadership team that is as passionate and proactive as the artists we support. By recruiting a committed and capable board, we will build the organizational backbone necessary to expand our reach, increase funding, and grow programs that empower filmmakers, youth, and communities fighting for equity and justice.

This project will have a ripple effect strengthening our leadership structure will enable us to support more artists, host more events, and create greater cultural impact. Volunteers who help us in this area will be directly contributing to the advancement of inclusive storytelling and meaningful systemic change through the arts.

To set this project up for success, we will:

Gain internal buy-in from our current board.

Conduct a preliminary review of our current board’s strengths and gaps.

Identify immediate organizational goals that a more strategic board can support (such as increased sponsorship outreach and community partnerships).

Allocate time for weekly check-ins and designate a point person for streamlined communication.
