We're looking for a volunteer with experience setting up a bookkeeping system and/or software from scratch! You'll help us set up regular recording, reconciliation, and reporting practices by spending 20-25 hours with us over 4-5 weeks. In our first meeting, we'll share a detailed description of our existing financial record-keeping and reporting systems. In phase one of the project, you'll migrate our data over to our new software and help us set up our account administrator privileges for our users. In the second phase of our project, you will provide one or two of our team members with basic training. We ask that you make yourself available for up to two weeks to address our questions as we adjust to the new software and systems.
Movement in Refuge was founded to bring the power of sports, recreation, and movement to refugee children and youth, with a special focus on girls, who often face the greatest barriers to participation. In places like Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, our programs create safe spaces where both girls and boys can build confidence, resilience, and a sense of community despite the hardships of displacement.

This financial management project is critical to advancing our mission. By helping us set up strong bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance systems, the volunteer will:
-Strengthen donor confidence so we can secure the resources needed to grow our programs.
-Enable us to reach more refugee youth with opportunities for healing, play, and empowerment.
-Ensure long-term sustainability, so that both girls and boys can continue to benefit from the joy and confidence that movement brings.

Your expertise will have a direct impact on the lives of refugee children, especially girls, by giving them the freedom to move, play, and thrive.
We are ready to set this project up for success. Movement in Refuge is a small, U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) that is largely volunteer-run, and our leadership team is fully committed to putting strong financial systems in place.

Here's how we've prepared:
-Full internal buy-in: Our board and leadership team are aligned on the need to establish reliable bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance systems to support our growth and meet future IRS and audit requirements.
-Prepared materials: We have organized our foundational documents, current bank records, and expense history so the volunteer will have a clear starting point.
-Implementation plan: Once the volunteer helps us create improved financial systems and reporting tools, our team will adopt these immediately, with board oversight to ensure they are sustainable.

We are eager to collaborate closely, respond quickly to requests, and implement the volunteer’s recommendations to make this project a success.

Organization Mission

Movement in Refuge (MIR) brings sport and physical movement to refugee and host communities, starting in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
