We’re seeking a skilled volunteer to help us design and execute a compelling end-of-year fundraising campaign that leverages peer-to-peer engagement strategies.

With your support, we’d like to develop a campaign that is emotionally resonant, shareable, and easy for supporters to promote on our behalf. Specifically, we hope to accomplish the following with a Taproot volunteer:
-Refine a campaign narrative that clearly connects our mission—clean energy and sustainability solutions in Westchester County—with the personal impact donors can make.
-Create a peer-to-peer fundraising toolkit for supporters, including:
-3-5 Social media and email templates
-3-5 Messaging prompts
-Design engagement strategies to motivate donors
-Outline a campaign timeline and content calendar to ensure consistent, strategic communication throughout the appeal period.

This work will support our broader efforts to build community awareness, increase donor participation, and strengthen our year-end fundraising outcomes. We anticipate needing 2 hours per week of support over 4–5 weeks, ideally beginning in early September.
Sustainable Westchester’s mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition and empower communities across Westchester County to take meaningful climate action. Our programs help residents, municipalities, and businesses reduce emissions, save on energy costs, and create healthier, more sustainable communities.

This project will play a critical role in expanding our impact by strengthening our year-end fundraising efforts, allowing us to grow and sustain initiatives such as community solar, energy efficiency programs, workforce development and environmental justice programming. By helping us design a compelling, community-driven fundraising campaign, the volunteer will directly contribute to:
-Engaging new supporters who care about climate action but haven’t yet taken the next step
-Mobilizing existing advocates to fundraise and spread awareness through their own networks
-Generating vital funding that allows us to expand programs that lower emissions and energy burdens for vulnerable communities

Ultimately, this project helps us do more of what matters: bringing equitable, local solutions to a global climate crisis. The volunteer’s work will empower our team, equip our supporters, and strengthen our ability to drive measurable change in the region we serve.
By joining us, the volunteer will be advancing environmental justice, climate resilience, and a healthier future for the communities of Westchester County.
We’re committed to making this a meaningful and successful collaboration for both our organization and the volunteer. To start, we’ve secured full internal buy-in from our leadership and we are aligned on the goals and timeline for this end-of-year campaign. We’ve also identified the internal staff who will be actively involved and responsive throughout the project to ensure continuity and momentum.
To support this work, we’ve:
-Gathered past fundraising materials and messaging for reference
-Identified preliminary goals and timelines for the year-end appeal internally and with our mailhouse
-Secured a matching challenge from an individual donor

We’ve also reviewed best practices for peer-to-peer campaigns and are ready to bring those insights into our planning sessions with the volunteer.

This is a high-priority initiative and we are excited to turn great ideas into action.
