With the support of a skilled volunteer, I would like to create a clear and actionable leadership development plan for myself as Executive Director of Live Pura Vida. The goal is to strengthen my ability to lead a growing nonprofit while maintaining organizational sustainability and team alignment.

The project would include:

Assessment of current leadership strengths and gaps – reviewing my leadership style, communication, and management practices.

Coaching and frameworks – applying practical tools and strategies for decision-making, team delegation, and conflict resolution.

Team-building strategies – identifying ways to mentor and empower interns, advisors, and volunteers so responsibility is shared effectively.

Personal sustainability plan – developing strategies for balancing nonprofit leadership with personal responsibilities and avoiding burnout.

By the end of the engagement, I would like to have a written leadership development roadmap that I can reference over the next 12–18 months, including concrete practices, habits, and milestones. This project will directly enhance my capacity to guide Live Pura Vida and ensure the team feels supported and equipped.
This project will directly strengthen Live Pura Vida’s ability to fulfill its mission of supporting, equipping, and encouraging local and international communities of color through access to resources, mentorship, and cultural connection.

By investing in leadership coaching, I will become a stronger and more effective Executive Director, able to lead with clarity, balance, and confidence. This growth will help me:

Build a sustainable organization: ensuring that our programs in youth enrichment, cultural exchange, and community empowerment continue to grow with stability and accountability.

Empower our team and volunteers: by applying strategies for delegation, mentorship, and communication that create stronger pipelines of leadership within our programs.

Increase impact for families and youth: a stronger leadership foundation means we can serve more students, build more partnerships, and provide consistent, high-quality opportunities for personal and community development.

Volunteers will know that their time is not only helping me as a leader but also rippling out into every classroom, after-school program, cultural initiative, and family we reach. Their expertise will ultimately help us expand opportunities and create lasting impact for the communities we serve.
I will set this project up for success by ensuring that the volunteer’s time and expertise are well-supported and that their guidance directly translates into action within Live Pura Vida.

Internal buy-in: As the Executive Director and founder, I have the support of our board advisors and team members to prioritize leadership coaching as part of our organizational growth. They are aware of this project and will help reinforce its outcomes.

Preparation: I’ve already gathered background materials on our mission, programs, and organizational structure so the volunteer can quickly understand our context. I also have notes from previous planning conversations that highlight areas where leadership development is most needed.

Implementation: The outcomes of this project—a leadership development roadmap and coaching strategies—will be directly applied within our team. I plan to integrate these practices into board meetings, intern onboarding, and day-to-day management so that the benefits extend beyond myself to the entire organization.

Accountability: I will create a system to track my progress on leadership goals and share updates with both the volunteer (during the project) and my board (after the project) to ensure ongoing follow-through.

By being prepared, open to feedback, and committed to implementation, I will create a partnership that is both efficient and impactful.
