On-site Photo/Video Capture + Editing (LA County for a Spring Break Event)
Specifically, the volunteer will:
-Attend and document program sessions on site during our 6-day Spring Break program and two separate week-long Summer tracks in Los Angeles County and surrounding areas
-Capture intentional photography and video footage of youth (ages 13–20) actively engaged in programming, guest speakers, hands-on activities, and partner interactions
-Collect B-roll that illustrates our IGNITE framework (Representation, Exposure, Immersion, Experience) in action
Following onsite capture, the volunteer will:
-Edit and produce a featured highlight video (approximately 1.5–3 minutes) that can be used on our website and in donor/partner conversations
-Create short-form video clips (15–60 seconds) for social media, presentations, and outreach
-Deliver a curated set of edited still photos suitable for our website, fundraising materials, grants, and recruitment
Given Taproot’s time expectations, we understand that editing and post-production will occur over multiple weeks, with the volunteer contributing 2–5 hours per week between and after program sessions. Our team will handle logistics, provide schedules, messaging, and clear guidance on priority moments to capture to ensure the volunteer’s time is used efficiently.
The end result will be a cohesive visual content library that allows Project Breaking Barriers to better engage youth and families, attract partners and funders, and clearly show what our programs look like in action.
This project directly supports our mission by helping us show what breaking barriers looks like in action. High-quality photos and video will allow us to clearly communicate the full scope of our model, including our IGNITE framework (Representation, Exposure, Immersion, and Experience) as well as the academic enrichment components that strengthen students’ readiness and confidence. Capturing youth engaged in structured learning workshops, skill-building sessions, writing/reflection, collaboration, and presentations will help audiences understand that our programs build both future career pathways and academic skills.
By contributing their talents, the volunteer will help us:
• Reach more youth and families by clearly showing what our programs offer career exposure and academic enrichment and why it matters
• Strengthen fundraising and donor engagement so we can sustain and expand programming
• Attract community and corporate partners who provide speakers, mentors, site experiences, and resources
• Build credibility and visibility for a growing organization working to close opportunity gaps
Most importantly, this project amplifies youth voices and experiences. The images and videos created will highlight young people actively learning, developing skills, asking thoughtful questions, collaborating, and envisioning their futures—academically and professionally. That visibility helps participants feel seen and valued, and it helps the broader community understand why integrated career exposure and academic enrichment are critical for long-term success.
For volunteers, this is an opportunity to create content with immediate, real-world impact. The finished visuals will be used in outreach and fundraising conversations that bring more resources, more partners, and more opportunities to the young people we serve.
To set the volunteer up for success, we will:
Confirm program dates, locations, and agendas in advance for the Spring Break program and both Summer tracks
Provide a clear overview of our mission, IGNITE framework, and key messages we want the visuals to communicate
Share a concise shot list and priority moments so the volunteer knows what to focus on during onsite capture
Designate a single point of contact to coordinate scheduling, feedback, and logistics efficiently
Ensure all photo/video permissions and youth-related requirements are handled in advance
We understand the importance of respecting a volunteer’s limited time. Editing and post-production will be scoped realistically and scheduled over several weeks, with clear milestones and feedback timelines to support a 2–5 hour/week commitment. We will provide timely feedback and make decisions efficiently to avoid rework.
Our team has experience working with external partners and understands how to implement deliverables once completed. All final videos and photos will be immediately integrated into:
Our website and social media channels
Fundraising and donor conversations
Partner outreach and recruitment materials
Presentations to schools, community groups, and corporate partners
We will also maintain the content as part of an ongoing visual asset library, ensuring the volunteer’s work continues to have impact well beyond the project timeline.
We value collaboration, clear communication, and mutual respect, and we are committed to making this a meaningful, well-managed pro bono experience for our Taproot volunteer partner.
