WordPress Technical Optimization & Responsive Design Implementation

Following a technical audit, our mental health organization is ready to implement high-priority fixes to our WordPress site. Our website serves as the "front door" for our clients seeking counseling, including those who are Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin)-speaking. We must ensure that technical barriers—such as broken mobile layouts or slow-loading forms—do not create a barrier to accessing care.

We are seeking a WordPress Developer to execute a series of technical optimizations. This project focuses on the "heavy lifting": cleaning up our WPML configuration, resolving CSS conflicts for mobile users, and streamlining our backend to improve administrative speed.

Deliverables:
- WPML Optimization: Implementation of best practices for string translation and media handling to reduce the plugin's performance footprint.
- Mobile Responsiveness Fixes: Correction of CSS/Theme issues to ensure thematic elements, intake forms and financial aid applications are fully functional on all mobile devices.
- Backend Speed Tuning: Execution of database cleanups, caching configurations, and plugin streamlining to resolve dashboard sluggishness.
- Final Stability Check: A post-implementation review to ensure all multilingual content remains intact and the user experience is seamless across languages.

Desired Volunteer Skills:
- WordPress Development: Strong PHP and backend optimization skills.
- Front-End Fluency: Mastery of CSS and HTML for responsive design troubleshooting.
- WPML Execution: Hands-on experience configuring and "leaning out" WPML settings.

Data Privacy & Security Note
As a mental health provider, data privacy and security are our highest priorities. The scope of this project is focused on site performance and front-end responsiveness. The volunteer will not be required to access or export Protected Health Information (PHI) or sensitive financial data. All intake forms are handled via a secure, third-party portal, and we will provide the volunteer with a 'Contributor' or 'Editor' level login that restricts access to sensitive user submissions.
For our clients, our website is the front door to mental health support. When a person in crisis is seeking help, a page that is illegible on a mobile device or a broken translation menu is more than a glitch—it is a barrier to care. These technical failures create unnecessary friction at a moment when our clients need clarity and ease of access the most.

By optimizing our WordPress backend and WPML integration, you are ensuring that our Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin)-speaking clients can navigate our service requests and financial aid applications without frustration. Your work will directly improve our conversion rate for intake forms, meaning more people in our community receive the counseling they need. Ultimately, this project transforms a technical bottleneck into a seamless pathway for mental health equity and accessibility.
Our leadership team fully supports this technical overhaul. We have designated Kathryn Foubister, Development and Outreach Manager, as the single point of contact to provide the volunteer with timely feedback and the necessary administrative access.

We have verified our hosting environment and confirmed that our backup protocols are active. We are prepared to provide the volunteer with a 'Contributor' or 'Editor' environment to ensure a safe workspace. Additionally, we have a dedicated IT contractor available to provide support or handle server-level tasks as needed during the project.

We have documented our most common 'failure points' regarding backend lag and mobile responsiveness to help the volunteer jump straight into diagnostics. We also have our WPML license and login credentials ready for review.

We have specifically allocated staff time to review the audit results and work alongside the volunteer to execute the high-priority fixes identified.
