We would like a volunteer to create a community launch strategy and outreach playbook for the SafeHome website. Volunteers will identify recommended distribution channels, draft outreach approaches and sample messaging for community groups and city departments, propose a phased outreach plan, and suggest simple metrics. Specifics will be defined with the project leads.
Expanding awareness of SafeHome will improve disaster preparedness across the city of San Francisco, reducing the potential loss of life, damage to property, economic disruption and human suffering during an event. Our project may eventually be fully partnered with or run by the city's Office of Emergency Management, who currently advise us. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the real-world impact of helping city residents develop a proactive mindset towards their risks due to earthquakes, extreme heat, air pollution and more.
We are actively working with local community groups and city departments to have real-world impact and reduce the disaster vulnerability of our city. We will provide website access, background information, project documents and any other necessary components. Our team will join co-design sessions, review scopes and drafts, and will develop a schedule and tracker for implementing the final plan.

Organization Mission

SF Civic Tech is a group of people, first and foremost. We also call ourselves technologists, planners, designers, doers, thinkers, and activists. Each week, we actively work together to improve the City and County of San Francisco, often using technology to support our efforts. By connecting people, organizations, resources, tools, and networks to build for San Francisco, we will all thrive. SF Civic Tech is a safe space for experimentation, learning and practicing skills, taking chances, and asking questions, all to affect and encourage positive change. Whenever possible, we proactively reach out to those who are left out, excluded, ignored, or discriminated against. Those people, in our opinion, represent our most desirable source for experiences, knowledge, and thoughts. We fail without their involvement. SF Civic Tech was originally founded in 2013 as Code for San Francisco, part of the Code for America Brigade Network. After the sunsetting of the Code for America Brigade Program in 2023, the organization renamed itself to SF Civic Tech in 2024 and became an independent 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit. SF Civic Tech is also a member of the Alliance of Civic Technologists.
