We need a volunteer who can virtually conduct a comprehensive HR assessment and then deliver concrete recommendations on necessary improvements.

Our nonprofit needs your help to build organizational resiliency by investing in our people. During this project, a volunteer will assess where our organization stands internally, brainstorm how to improve upon weaknesses, and how we can further lean into organizational strengths. Investigating which HR policies should be implemented, researching new remote work standards, or conducting an internal engagement survey may all be elements of this work.
Behind every life-changing program is a strong, supported team, and that’s where you come in. We are a small nonprofit in Chicago serving survivors of domestic violence and their children. Our programs are powerful, but to sustain and grow our impact, we need stronger internal systems to support the staff doing this critical work. Through this HR assessment and strategy project, you’ll help us build that foundation. Your work will directly support staff well-being, reduce burnout, and position our organization to grow responsibly, including preparing us to hire our first dedicated HR professional. Your impact goes beyond policies. When our team is supported, they can show up more fully for survivors and more families can access safety and care. If you’re looking to use your HR or organizational expertise to create meaningful, lasting impact, we’d love to work with you.
This project will involve the exchange of sensitive internal information. With that in mind, we've done the pre-work internally to ensure leadership and staff buy-in to this work and gather the information that will be handed off to the volunteer. We have an Employee handbook and some stand alone HR policies and procedures around significant areas such as hiring. We use Paylocity for most of our HR functions, but we are not using it to its full potential. The recommendations shared by our volunteer partner will be incorporated into our operations and people strategy in the coming months and help inform the hiring of the organization's first ever dedicated HR professional.
