Fundraising Strategy for Veteran-Led Animal Rescue Nonprofit
We need a fundraising strategist to help us build a sustainable, realistic fundraising plan that a one-person operation can actually execute.
WHAT WE NEED:
· Assessment of our current fundraising activities and gaps
· A diversified fundraising strategy including: individual donors, recurring giving, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events, and earned revenue from our product and experience lines
· A 12-month fundraising calendar with specific campaigns, goals, and tactics
· Guidance on donor stewardship — how to build relationships with the people who already support us
· Recommendations for fundraising tools, platforms, and automations that work for a small operation
· Specific strategy for our highest-priority immediate need: sponsorship for Dobby's ongoing veterinary recovery
CURRENT FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES:
· PayPal donate button on website
· Product sales (Magical Mutts, journals) with proceeds funding rescue operations
· Donation-based trail experiences and outdoor programming
· Email list in early development
· No major donor program, no recurring giving program, no corporate sponsors yet
THE OPPORTUNITY:
This rescue has multiple compelling fundraising stories — a veteran founder, dogs in active recovery, children's products with a direct mission connection, and immersive experiences that bring donors physically onto the property. The ingredients for a strong fundraising program are all here. We need someone to help us put them together strategically.
That is sustainable when things are going well. It is precarious when a dog like Dobby arrives — found on a roadside, emaciated, needing weeks of intensive care before he can even think about being adopted. The money has to come from somewhere. Right now it comes from wherever we can find it, one donation at a time, with no system underneath it.
Your fundraising strategy builds the system.
With a real fundraising plan Legacy Paws Rescue can fund Dobby's recovery without panic. Can take in the next dog that needs us without wondering if we can afford to. Can build the recurring donor base that means a bad month doesn't threaten the whole operation. Can launch a corporate sponsorship program that funds the trail experiences that bring families and companies onto this property and into this mission.
The community members on the other side of this work are the dogs themselves — and the children whose lives are changed by them. A child fighting cancer who receives a Brave Light Kit because a fundraising campaign reached the right hospital at the right time. A foster child who receives a Rooted & Rising Kit because a social worker found us through a donor-funded awareness campaign. A traumatized dog who gets the veterinary care she needs because a recurring giving program means the money is there when she arrives.
Your fundraising strategy is not a document. It is a lifeline. For the dogs. For the children. For the one person trying to hold all of this together alone.
We can provide our current revenue breakdown, expense categories, and fundraising history immediately upon matching. The founder will be available for a kick-off call within 48 hours and will respond to all communications same day.
Every recommendation in the completed fundraising strategy will be implemented. We are not a large organization with committees and approval chains — the founder makes decisions and acts on them immediately. If you recommend a recurring giving campaign, we will launch it. If you recommend a specific donor stewardship approach, we will follow it. If you identify a corporate sponsorship opportunity, we will pursue it.
We also have an immediate, compelling fundraising story ready to activate — Dobby, a dog found emaciated on a roadside who is currently in recovery. His story is documented with before and after photos. He is the kind of story that moves donors to give. We just need the strategic framework to use it effectively.
