Our nonprofit is searching for a grant writer or talented copywriter to assist our team in reviewing a grant proposal and making updates.

To implement this grant writing project, we'll need two meetings with a volunteer. In our first meeting, we will provide you with a copy and review the application draft with you. We'll align on expectations and agree on the project timeline. Next, you'll review our document using the track changes function checking for inconsistencies and continuity errors, and creates a list of recommended changes to share with us. The project will conclude after up to two rounds of edits which the volunteer will make the agreed-upon changes to the document.
We have been documenting the crisis of health deserts in the U.S. since January 2026. So far, we have traveled to Tennessee and Alabama three times to film, and we have released 140 short videos as a result. Our goal with this series is to educate Americans that these gaps in healthcare access exist, encourage folks to donate to the orgs that are standing in the gap to ensure that their communities can access care, and encourage people to register to vote. The videos are resonating on social media; we recently surpassed 1MM organic video views across platforms. We have self-funded this project so far, to the tune of $60K, and our funds are done. We've applied to 35+ grants, and had many rejections so far. In order to follow the journey of our subjects in TN and AL, we need to be able to return to film them every three months, ideally through the election in 2028, for 12 visits total, each of which costs $20K.
We have a dedicated team member for the project who will provide you with the document that needs to be reviewed in an easily shareable format. (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc.) We'll also send you the proposal and application guidelines.

Organization Mission

Runaway Train Productions is a female-founded video production company with a mission to empower women and other marginalized groups both in front of and behind the camera. In the last year, RTP has created "Standing in the Gap" a social-first docu-series, which is set within the healthcare deserts of the United States, where systemic policy failures and economic collapse have stripped 120 million Americans of their access to healthcare. The project follows the visceral stories of frontline heroes—including rural OBGYNs, doulas, and community advocates—who are deploying ingenious, localized solutions to provide life-saving care amidst hospital closures and restrictive legislation. This project will educate Americans and encourage them to dismantle these systemic barriers and drive real-world democratic change.
