About the Opportunity

The content should reflect 23&1 Magazine's mission, voice, and visual identity while helping us consistently share our magazine content, stories, organizational updates, accomplishments, and mission with a broader audience.

We would also like the volunteer to review our current social media presence and provide practical recommendations for improving audience engagement, increasing our reach, and building a stronger community around our work.

At the completion of the project, we hope to have:

A two-week social media content plan/calendar
6–10 ready-to-post social media graphics
Completed captions for each post
Recommendations for audience engagement and organic growth
Guidance or reusable content ideas that our team can continue implementing after the project

23&1 Magazine is a nonprofit publication dedicated to sharing stories that highlight humanity beyond prison walls, amplify the voices and experiences of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, and encourage conversations about rehabilitation, reentry, criminal justice, and positive change.

Social media gives us an important opportunity to extend these stories beyond the pages of the magazine. A stronger and more consistent social media presence will help us reach new readers, connect with organizations and individuals who share our mission, increase awareness of the experiences represented in our publication, and create greater engagement with our work.

By helping 23&1 communicate our mission effectively online, this project will strengthen our ability to educate, connect, and build a larger community around the people and stories we serve.

23&1 Magazine is prepared to provide the volunteer with the materials and information needed to begin the project quickly. We can provide access to our existing magazine issues and articles, organizational background and mission information, logos and brand materials, examples of previous social media content, photographs and other approved media, and information about the audiences we are trying to reach.

Our Operations Manager will serve as the primary point of contact throughout the project and will be available to answer questions, provide feedback, approve content, and supply additional materials as needed.

We are also open to the volunteer's professional recommendations and creative ideas. Our goal is to provide enough direction to maintain 23&1's identity while giving the volunteer room to use their expertise to help us improve our social media strategy.

Organization Mission

23&1 Magazine is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to amplifying the voices, experiences, talents, and accomplishments of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Our mission is to challenge the stigma surrounding incarceration by sharing authentic stories of personal growth, rehabilitation, creativity, resilience, and success. Through journalism, personal narratives, poetry, artwork, interviews, and educational content, we provide a platform for voices that are too often overlooked or unheard. 23&1 Magazine also seeks to bring awareness to important issues within the criminal justice system, including wrongful convictions, the effects of solitary confinement, barriers to successful reentry, and the need for meaningful rehabilitation and reform. We believe that incarceration should not define the entirety of a person’s life or determine the value of their voice. By connecting incarcerated individuals with communities beyond prison walls, we strive to encourage understanding, reduce stigma, support successful reentry, and contribute to reducing recidivism. Our purpose is simple: to give people a voice, recognize their humanity, and show that a person’s story is greater than their incarceration.
