About the Opportunity

My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a Board Development Retreat Package and Governance Toolkit that includes:

- A professionally designed board retreat agenda
- Facilitation of the retreat (virtual or in‑person, if the volunteer is comfortable)
- Governance exercises and activities tailored to our organization
- Materials that strengthen board engagement, expectations, and collaboration
- Tools that help board members contribute more effectively (onboarding aids, accountability tools, committee clarity materials, etc.)
- Recommendations for improving board culture, communication, and alignment with organizational priorities

Strengthening our board directly strengthens our ability to deliver high‑quality programs, expand partnerships, and serve communities more effectively. A well‑aligned, well‑developed board allows us to:

- Increase organizational capacity
- Improve program planning and execution
- Strengthen governance and strategic decision‑making
- Build momentum for major initiatives, including our December conference and national advocacy work
- Ensure that the board realizes that generating revenue for sustainability is a shared commitment. Especially while the organization is young.

I have prepared for this project by:

- Securing full internal buy‑in from leadership and board officers
- Identifying the key areas where board development is needed
- Gathering existing governance materials, bylaws, agendas, and strategic priorities
- Establishing clear goals for what we want the retreat to accomplish
- Preparing to implement the retreat outcomes immediately
- Committing to timely communication, feedback, and collaboration with the volunteer

We are ready to partner closely with the volunteer and ensure their work has a direct and worthwhile impact.
