🐾 Build Our Rehoming and Owner Support Program

Legacy Paws Rescue is looking for a program consultant to design a Rehoming and Owner Support Program with our Executive Director, then hand it off with everything in place.

We're building a different kind of rescue, focused on prevention, education, and supporting both ends of the leash. Every week, people reach out struggling with their dog. Most don't want to give them up. They just don't know where to turn. You'd be building the system that helps people keep their dogs when they can, and rehome them safely when they can't.

1. Intake and triage process. A simple way for owners to reach out and a clear path to the right kind of help.
2. Owner support resources and referral directory structure. Honest resources on behavior, vet costs, food help, and housing, plus the structure for a local referral directory covering Catawba County and surrounding counties in western North Carolina. Our team will gather the local contacts.
3. Responsible rehoming toolkit. How to write an honest dog profile, screen adopters, and spot red flags.
4. Case tracking system. One place to log each owner and dog, the help offered, and outcomes.

What "done" looks like
All four pieces built, handed off, and walked through with our team. Simple enough for a volunteer to run, and warm enough that an overwhelmed owner feels helped, not judged.

Timeline: 8 to 10 weeks

Tools we use: Google Workspace, our Fit Check quiz, and our help-with-my-dog tool.

Who we're looking for
Someone with rescue, social work, or case management experience who knows the person asking for help is usually just as scared as their dog.

We believe the best way to change the lives of dogs is not only to rescue them when they are in crisis, but to help prevent that crisis whenever possible. We educate people about how dogs think, communicate, learn, and experience the world, while providing practical support and resources to help people and dogs succeed together. When rescue is needed, we step in for the dogs who have nowhere else to turn—especially those who are overlooked because of age, medical needs, trauma, or circumstances beyond their control. Everything we do comes back to one belief: Healing and learning happens on both ends of the leash. Rescue isn’t where we end. It’s where we begin.
