Youth and Mentor Connection Event Playbook

Think speed-dating-style introductions, adapted into a fun, age-appropriate experience for youth and potential mentors, combined with the excitement of an artist going on tour. Find Your ONE would pop up in different cities, with families asking, “Where are you going next?”

braveONE pairs youth living with Type 1 diabetes with adult mentors who have T1D too. We’re seeking a volunteer to design a special, three-hour experience for approximately 10 youth, 10 screened mentors, and their families.

Intentional activities and guided rotations would help youth and mentors discover shared interests and potential connections. Caregivers and siblings would have equally thoughtful activities so the whole family feels included.

We need a detailed, repeatable playbook covering check-in, activities, lunch, and closing, with clear timing, activity instructions, rotations, and a private way to capture interest for matching follow-up.

Our vision is a signature nationwide experience that builds excitement and waitlists for each stop. We’re looking for someone with experience in event design, youth programming, or facilitation to help bring it to life.

Organization Mission

braveONE is a first-of-its-kind mentorship program connecting children living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) with screened, trained adult mentors who live with T1D too. Through intentional one-to-one relationships built around shared interests, personality and lived experience, we help kids feel less alone and more confident growing up with T1D. In just over a year, braveONE has grown to 50+ matches across 19 states, creating 134+ outings and nearly 300 hours of connection between kids and mentors. More than 150 families are currently waiting for a mentor. Our mission is simple: no child should have to navigate Type 1 Diabetes feeling like they are the only one.
