About the Opportunity

The Open Lunch Project (OLP) is a Virginia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to eliminating student school lunch debt, reducing barriers to nutritious school meals, and expanding educational equity.

As a growing nonprofit establishing school district partnerships, pursuing grant funding, and expanding community outreach, we recognize the importance of a strong digital presence that builds credibility, communicates our impact, and inspires supporters to take action.

Our existing website, www.openlunchproject.org, is built on Squarespace. While it provides a foundation for our online presence, we need expert guidance to improve its design, navigation, accessibility, donation experience, search visibility, and overall effectiveness in engaging donors, school districts, corporate partners, and volunteers.

Our team has begun reviewing website content, organizational messaging, and Google Ad Grants requirements. However, as a startup nonprofit operating with limited resources, we lack the specialized web design, UX, and digital strategy expertise needed to develop a comprehensive improvement plan.

We are seeking a skilled Squarespace and website strategy volunteer to conduct a thorough website audit and develop an actionable, prioritized redesign roadmap.

This initial project will focus on assessment, strategy, and recommendations rather than implementation. The resulting plan will guide a subsequent Taproot Plus project to execute improvements within our existing Squarespace platform.

By strengthening our digital foundation, we can build donor confidence, improve fundraising readiness, and connect more communities with our mission.

We are seeking a skilled Squarespace website strategist or UX/UI professional to evaluate The Open Lunch Project's existing website (www.openlunchproject.org) and develop a comprehensive, actionable redesign plan. This project will focus on assessment and strategic recommendations, not website implementation.

Key Deliverables:

1. Website Audit: Evaluate our existing Squarespace website, identifying strengths, usability challenges, and opportunities to improve design, navigation, mobile responsiveness, performance, and visitor engagement.

2. UX/UI & Site Structure Recommendations: Recommend improvements to page layouts, navigation, content organization, accessibility, and user journeys for donors, school districts, corporate partners, and volunteers.

3. Donation & Conversion Strategy: Assess donation pathways, calls to action, and engagement opportunities. Recommend improvements to increase donor confidence, simplify giving, and encourage community participation.

4. SEO & Google Ad Grants Readiness: Review foundational SEO, accessibility, and website requirements relevant to Google Ad Grants. Provide actionable recommendations to strengthen search visibility and grant readiness.

5. Prioritized Redesign Roadmap: Deliver a practical, phased implementation plan outlining recommended Squarespace improvements, priorities, estimated effort, and suggested next steps.

6. Final Strategy & Handoff: Provide a written audit report, recommendations, and a walkthrough with our team to support a future Taproot implementation project.

What Success Looks Like:

A clear, professionally developed website improvement strategy that our team and future skilled volunteers can confidently implement. The completed roadmap will help OLP strengthen its digital presence, improve donor engagement, support fundraising, and expand our mission's reach without requiring a platform migration.
