USIOT is seeking experienced competitive programmers to help expand and strengthen our problem-setting team for the 2026–2027 competition season.
We run multiple online qualification rounds leading to the USIOT National Finals, and each contest requires original, technically sound algorithmic problems across a range of difficulty levels. Developing enough high-quality problems, test data, solutions, and supporting materials is one of the most time-intensive parts of running the competition.
We are looking for a volunteer with a strong background in competitive programming, algorithms, and data structures who can contribute original problem ideas and help turn them into contest-ready problems. Experience with competitions such as USACO, ICPC, Codeforces, AtCoder, or similar programs is especially useful.
The volunteer would work remotely with the USIOT problem-setting team. All unreleased contest materials must remain confidential.
By the end of the project, the volunteer will develop one or more complete, contest-ready competitive programming problems for use in a USIOT qualification round or National Finals.
For each problem, the deliverable may include:
- An original problem concept
- A complete problem statement with input/output format and constraints
- An official solution and explanation
- Reference solution code
- Test cases and, where appropriate, test generators, validators, or checkers
- An estimated difficulty level and intended algorithmic concepts
- Revisions based on review and testing by the USIOT problem-setting team
A successful project will result in at least one problem that has been fully reviewed, tested, and approved for inclusion in a future USIOT contest.
