Research on US foundation prospects

We run independent media, democracy and civic discourse programs in the Middle East and North Africa, and we want to grow our support from US foundations.

Deliverable: a ranked list of 20 to 30 US foundations and donor-advised funds that support independent media, democracy, or technology and civic discourse internationally. For each one we would like a note on fit, its typical grant range and a recommended first contact.

Organization Mission

The Munathara Initiative is a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds inclusive public debate in the Middle East and North Africa. We produce televised and online debates, town halls and civic media programs that give young people, women and marginalized communities a voice in public life. In 2019 we organized the Arab world's first televised presidential debates, in Tunisia, which more than six million people watched. We have produced over 200 live debates. We work in Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon and Syria, we are strictly nonpartisan, and we are the only Arab member of Debates International.
