The pandemic forced nonprofits to pivot operations and abandon fundraising in person. Some organizations shifted to online events to great success. Virtual fundraisers brought unique challenges but also some unexpected benefits; they’re low-cost, interactive, and accessible to a wider audience.
Before hosting an online event, you’ll need a virtual event platform and donation tool on your website. You’ll need at least one tech-savvy volunteer or staff member to host the event.
Here are five of our unique ideas to raise more money for your cause. Download the checklist for all 15.
1. Online Auction or Raffle
Collect items you can ship to attendees and post photos on your website and social media to attract potential donors. Make sure you add bidding software on your website.
2. Virtual Race
You can still host a run, walk, or bikeathon virtually. Participants can gather pledges and send pics of themselves after completing the race. You could send virtual (or real) trophies to the winners.
3. Online Game Night
This is a fun, interactive way to raise money and show your nonprofit’s playful side. Play board games, bingo, or trivia quizzes online. You could even host a gaming championship.
4. Webinar or Virtual Conference
Invite speakers and experts in your nonprofit’s focus area to share their insights. You can pre-record webinars to provide more content and plan a longer event. Open the chat and Q&A boxes for a more interactive learning experience.
5. Online Pet Show
Animal nonprofits have perfect clients to show online. You can pre-record videos if the animals are too restless for a live event. Shelters can highlight animals available to foster or adopt.
