People of Pro Bono: Elaine Go

Outside of the office, Lifecycle Marketer and team coach/cheerleader Elaine Go likes exploring San Francisco on foot, talking to strangers, and taking classes.

A Curious Coach and Tenacious Team Leader

As a kid, I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up—constantly surrounded by books filled with knowledge and adventure and sharing information and interacting with all different types of people. I even loved the scanning process during checkout and would play “imaginary library”! I tap into the same insatiable curiosity and tenacity that drew me to the library now as a full-stack marketer. Being a coach and cheerleader for my team and everyone around me is also a big part of what I do—I have a deep desire for collaboration and love encouraging and supporting the people I work with.

A Decade of Service for the Common Good

I’ve been doing pro bono with Taproot since 2011, participating in a service project or event at least once every year. I’ve met a lot of fantastic people and connected with some really great organizations as a result, even becoming a board member through my Taproot experience. Pro bono service has allowed me to flex several muscles—everything from collaborating with people who have different work styles to finding creative ways to stay in-scope while being flexible as unexpected challenges arise.

My favorite parts of the projects I’ve worked on have been the beginnings and endings (though the middle is also fun!). I love the beginning of a project because there’s so much anticipation and so many fresh opportunities when we are all venturing into something new. The end of the project is also rewarding because it’s fulfilling to see the culmination of all the conversations and hard work in the final deliverables.

The Inspiring Impact of Pro Bono

I always feel inspired when I meet passionate people who are willing to share their passions and stories with me. Pro bono service has brought so many people with wonderful stories into my life!

I’m so grateful to engage with the diverse set of nonprofit professionals and organizations through my pro bono projects. I’ve learned so much about their work, my community, and even about myself. I cherish the connections I’ve made and look forward to the ones I will make through future projects.

I’d tell anyone considering pro bono to try it! It’s a great way to meet people, sharpen your skills, and do good by working on things that matter—all at the same time. I’ve enjoyed my experiences and am grateful for the opportunity to do good and for all that has resulted from doing pro bono.
