People of Pro Bono: Mary Lyski, Double Comfort Foods

Double Comfort Foods opened its doors in 2014 with the inspiring (and tasty!) mission to raise money for local food banks through the sale of delicious Southern food. So far, Mary’s organization has funded nearly 100,000 meals for those in need. Now with the support of Taproot pro bono, that number is rapidly rising.

Everyone’s a winner when the food is this tasty

I founded Double Comfort Foods to provide a revenue stream to local food pantries and end food scarcity in my community. Since we opened in 2014, all of our proceeds have gone towards supporting local food pantries. So far, we’ve been able to provide funding for over 99,500 meals for those in need. You’ll find that I am a big fan of ideas or products that are ‘win-wins.’ I like to think that purchasing a Double Comfort product is a win-win – you get a great product to make your meals even better, all while helping someone in need.

It takes a village

When I originally found my way to Taproot, I needed help rebranding and revising Double Comfort’s website after we shifted from a restaurant to a retail products company. At first I had trouble narrowing down exactly what I expected to receive through a project, but between all of the online resources Taproot has available and some advice from the talented Taproot team, I was able to post succinct projects. With every pro bono project completed, I’ve gotten better at scoping out specifically what our organization needs based on the advice and training Taproot provides.

Taproot pro bono volunteers have helped Double Comfort rebrand, pull our crazy sales spreadsheets together, and build a new website. These projects have helped us in marketing and selling our product to make more revenue for food pantries. The volunteers we have found are amazing individuals, with big professional skill sets and even bigger hearts. Your talents make it possible for us to provide support to those who need a meal tonight. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Pro bono in one word? Love.

The old adage that ‘it takes a village’ is very accurate in the social enterprise world. Everything our organization is able to accomplish for our community takes a team of people. Double Comfort and I benefit from meeting so many amazing people around the country. To be able to tap into folks through Taproot, find them where they’re at, and match their skills with our needs – it’s invaluable.
