How can we improve our organization’s financial forecasting? What changes do we need to make in our budget?
These were just a few of the questions nonprofit organizations from across Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) sought answers to at the Capital One Speed Consulting event, which took place Thursday, Feb. 18. The event was held at the Capital One Conference Center in Plano, Texas, where Capital One’s Financial Services division is headquartered.
This was the fourth annual pro bono consulting event for Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) nonprofits hosted by Capital One in partnership with Taproot Foundation. This year’s event brought executives from nine nonprofits together with associates from Capital One to solve a wide range of business challenges facing their organizations.
The Speed Consulting event presented a unique opportunity for nonprofit executives to receive targeted consulting and expert advice from Capital One associates who are experts in different disciplines. And for our Capital One associates, the event offered them the chance to use their professional skills and talent to support the critical needs of nonprofits that are doing amazing work in the community.
At the event, Capital One experts were divided in tables by their expertise in project management, data analysis and human resources. Representatives from the participating nonprofits spent one hour at each table to gather as much business expertise as possible before moving on to the next round of associates.
More than 20 Capital One associates volunteered their time and expertise working with nonprofits. The participating nonprofits included:

- Communities in Schools of the Dallas Region, Inc.
- Plano ISD Education Foundation
- United Way of Metropolitan Dallas
- Trinity River Mission
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth
- Junior League of Collin County
- Hendrick Scholarship Foundation
Through Speed Consulting, executives were thankful to carve out time to gain access to top resources and expertise in order to focus on the fundamentals that will drive their organizations forward; fundamentals that often get pushed to the backburner. In an interview with Plano Star Courier, Plano ISD Education Foundation Executive Director Jeanine Alpert said, “at a nonprofit, oftentimes you get focused on what you are doing, your mission, and the back of the house you do as you are able. This is an opportunity to get those things in the forefront and get more efficient.”
