Get Involved: Pro Bono for the Metropolitan Tenants Organization

A look at pro bono in Chicago

Taproot just awarded its June 2011 Service Grants to amazing nonprofits in Chicago. Interested in getting involved in a project? Here’s one that might spark your interest.

logo.gifThe Metropolitan Tenants Organization (MTO) works to educate and advocate for safe, healthy and affordable housing for Chicagoans. Since 1994, 170,000 Chicagoans have used their Tenants Rights hotline to work through housing issues with tenants’ rights experts and gain access to experienced attorneys and social service agencies. Through their experience in the field, they recently published their first “State of the Renter” report based upon 15 years of data, establishing themselves as the Renter’s Rights experts in Chicago.

As an organization on the verge of completing a 3-year strategic plan focused on building organizational capacity, partnerships and brand awareness, MTO is interested in gathering the best data to help inform their strategic priorities and objectives for their next strategic plan. This includes finding collaboration opportunities, identifying trends in the philanthropic community for funding organizations focused on the foreclosure crisis, and the improving the perception of MTO with their various stakeholders.

The foreclosure crisis continues to be a “crisis,” and MTO needs your help to continue to give their Chicago tenants a voice. The Metropolitan Tenants Organization is looking for strategy professionals to help them prepare for a new strategic plan. If you are a Strategy Professional passionate about sustaining Chicago’s communities, this is the perfect opportunity to work with an incredible nonprofit helping people and families keep their homes.
