Taproot and Anthropic Plan to Team Up to Put AI Experts to Work for Nonprofits

Taproot, in partnership with Anthropic, will connect nonprofits with experienced, AI-trained professionals who can help them take advantage of AI to advance their missions.

NEW YORK, October 26, 2026 — Taproot, the organization that built the modern pro bono movement, announced today plans to partner with Anthropic to match nonprofits with experienced professionals who can help them use AI well.

“Nonprofits know their communities better than anyone, and many have a vision for how AI can help them serve those communities even better,” said Cat Ward, CEO of Taproot. “What they’ve asked us for is experienced partners to work alongside them. For more than 25 years, Taproot has brought nonprofits that kind of support, pro bono, and now we’ve partnered with Anthropic to bring them similar expertise in AI.”

AI is opening new possibilities for what nonprofits can accomplish. In a 2026 Taproot survey, 89 percent of nonprofits said they expect increased demand for their programs in the coming year, and 63 percent reported serious funding and resource constraints. Taproot’s planned partnership with Anthropic will help nonprofits expand their capacity by putting AI to work on the tasks that consume a team’s week, so staff can spend their time on the judgment, relationships, and care that only people can provide.

Earlier this year, Anthropic launched Claude Corps, a program built to pair nonprofits looking for AI implementation support with early career workers trained in these skills. Given the outsized demand from nonprofits, Anthropic is planning to partner with Taproot to expand the number of organizations that can receive specialized support. Taproot will recruit experienced professionals, and work with Anthropic to train them on the latest applications of Claude. Those professionals will be matched with nonprofits for defined projects like building a custom app to expand program delivery, analyzing data, or automating workflow so staff can focus on mission-critical work. Every engagement is scoped, matched, and supported by Taproot, all at no cost to nonprofits.

Taproot also plans to pilot paid stipends for a small group of consultants, opening mission-driven work to skilled professionals who want to contribute, but can’t afford to do it for free. This new program will launch in 2027. Professionals, nonprofits, employers, and funders can learn more and stay informed on innovative programs from Taproot at taprootfoundation.org.
