I'm Andrew Longenecker, founder and CEO of PBD Project (Stanford GSB, former McKinsey biopharma consultant, former Chief Business Officer at a genetic testing biotech, Termeer Fellow). We're a nonprofit research accelerator built around a single organelle, the peroxisome, that most people, and most funders, have never heard of, despite growing evidence it's implicated in cancer, viral infection, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, obesity, diabetes, and aging, well beyond the rare genetic disorders that motivate our mission (Zalckvar & Schuldiner, Molecular Cell, 2022). We were founded after my son's diagnosis with one of these disorders and have since built a global research network of 50+ scientists at institutions including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, and Imperial College London.
Despite that momentum, peroxisome science is badly underfunded relative to comparable biology (NIH funding 2016-2025: $9.3M across 41 peroxisomal projects vs. $2.0B across 5,420 mitochondrial projects), partly because the science itself is scattered across mechanism-specific and disease-specific literatures that rarely cite each other. That makes it hard for donors, new collaborators, patients, and families to see how the pieces connect, or where the evidence is strong versus still speculative.
We've fully scoped and designed an Interactive Peroxisome Explainer to close that gap (full concept and mockup document ready to share once matched): a visually striking, dark, bioluminescent-on-black web experience where a visitor starts from either a biological mechanism or a disease they recognize and explores what's known, what's open, and where the primary literature lives. Content, structure, and interaction design are fully specified. What we lack is the professional front-end development expertise to build it to production quality, beyond what our small, scientifically-strong-but-not-engineering-native team can produce alone.
A working, deployed interactive web experience for the PBD Project website, built to our existing concept and mockup document (happy to share in full once matched). Core build: a landing "hub" centered on a glowing 3D peroxisome graphic with two toggleable views, Mechanisms (7 spokes, cool blue palette) and Diseases & Conditions (8 spokes, warm red palette), with the specified hover/click behavior (idle pulse, brighten and reorient on hover, smooth transitions into detail pages with no white flash or hard cut).
Each detail page: a short plain-language description, a set of selectable sub-topic bullets, and two content panels (e.g. "Manifestation in Genetic Peroxisomal Disorders" / "Connection to Common Conditions," each with inline citations), all driven from a simple, editable data structure rather than hard-coded per page.
Success = a responsive, accessible, production-ready build that matches our mockups closely enough to use immediately with donors, prospective PIs, and patient families, plus light documentation (or a simple data/CMS layer) so our team can add new mechanisms, diseases, and citations ourselves after launch without needing a developer.
