KLKT 107.9 FM is a nonprofit, entirely volunteer-operated community radio station serving Lockhart, Texas. Our website plays an important role in connecting listeners with our programming, community information, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support the station.
As our organization has grown, we've identified a variety of website challenges, including inconsistent design elements, mobile usability issues, opportunities to improve navigation and accessibility, and inefficiencies in managing certain website features and content.
Our website currently runs on WordPress using Elementor and Astra, with integrations for streaming audio, radio programming information, underwriting sponsor displays, and other station-related functionality.
We've addressed individual issues as they arise and recently undertook a hosting migration to improve reliability and performance. However, we have not conducted a comprehensive, independent evaluation of the website's overall performance, functionality, accessibility, security, user experience, or maintainability.
We're seeking an experienced website professional to help us understand where our website is performing well, where improvements are needed, and whether our existing technology and workflows are appropriate for our long-term needs.
As a small nonprofit relying entirely on volunteers, we place particular importance on reliability, ease of maintenance, cost-effectiveness, and creating a positive experience for our listeners and community.
The findings of this audit will help KLKT make informed decisions about future website improvements, which may include a broader redesign or modernization effort.
KLKT 107.9 FM seeks a comprehensive, independent website audit that identifies opportunities to improve performance, functionality, accessibility, user experience, and long-term maintainability.
The volunteer consultant will evaluate our existing WordPress website, including:
- Technical Performance: Page speed, mobile performance, WordPress configuration, plugins, caching, and optimization.
- User Experience & Accessibility: Navigation, layouts, design consistency, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility.
- Security & Maintenance: Security practices, updates, backups, and potential vulnerabilities.
- SEO & Discoverability: Search visibility, metadata, site structure, and optimization opportunities. The ability to use google AdGrants and Google Analytics.
- Integrations & Functionality: Streaming player, widgets, underwriting displays, forms, and interactive features.
- Content Management: Ease of updating homp page, underwriting information, and other recurring content.
- Technology Assessment: Suitability of our current WordPress, Elementor, and Astra setup, including potential alternatives.
Expected Deliverables:
- A written audit identifying strengths, weaknesses, technical concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prioritized recommendations organized by urgency, impact, and implementation complexity.
- An assessment of existing tools, integrations, and content management workflows.
- A practical improvement roadmap identifying recommended next steps and required resources.
- A final review meeting to discuss findings and recommendations.
Success means KLKT has a clear understanding of its website's condition and an actionable plan for making it more reliable, accessible, engaging, and manageable for our volunteer team.
The audit should help determine whether targeted improvements or a broader redesign would best serve KLKT. Implementation is not required as part of this project, but would be open to having the changes implemented.
