Africa Matters Initiative (AMI) is seeking a skilled volunteer to support the review, updating, and development of key organizational policies related to wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and safeguarding. As a youth-led organization working across 23 African countries, AMI is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for staff, volunteers, alumni, and young people. We would like to partner with a volunteer who can help us strengthen existing policies and develop new ones where needed, ensuring they reflect best practice, are culturally sensitive, and align with our mission and values. The volunteer will help assess current documents, identify gaps, and support the creation of clear, practical, and implementable policies that promote wellbeing, embed inclusivity, and reinforce safeguarding standards across all AMI programming and operations.
This project directly strengthens AMI’s mission to empower African youth by ensuring we operate in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that protects the wellbeing of all community members. Strong wellbeing, DEI, and safeguarding policies are essential for an organization that works closely with young people—especially women, girls, and individuals experiencing systemic barriers. By improving and formalizing our internal policies, we can better protect participants, uphold ethical standards, create more inclusive spaces, and reinforce our commitment to youth-centered leadership. Ultimately, this project enhances the foundation that allows our programs to thrive and ensures that young leaders across Africa can engage with AMI in a safe, respectful, and empowering way.
We will provide all existing policies, organizational documents, program summaries, and contextual information to ensure the volunteer has a strong understanding of AMI’s work and the populations we serve. Our team is prepared to review drafts, provide input, and work collaboratively to refine the policies. Once finalized, the policies will be integrated into onboarding, training, and program management processes, ensuring they are actively used and consistently upheld across the organization.
