Light Between is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit preparing a small pilot connecting older and younger adults through meaningful one-to-one conversations, shared life experiences, and mutual learning. Our mission is to reduce loneliness and build purpose, direction, and belonging.
As a new, founder-led organization, we need a manageable plan for recruiting active working board members who contribute to governance and take ownership of agreed projects between meetings. Our priority skills are fundraising, community partnerships, and budgeting/financial oversight. We want clear expectations and a practical way to assess candidates’ availability, commitment, and follow-through.
We seek a consultant experienced in nonprofit board development and recruitment. The project can be completed remotely, with recruitment channels focused on Orange County and Southern California.
A concise board recruitment toolkit and action plan, including:
1. A review of our current board skills and priority gaps.
2. Two recruitment descriptions focused on fundraising/community partnerships and budgeting/financial oversight, with clear governance responsibilities, practical contributions, and realistic time commitments.
3. Recommended recruitment channels and an outreach message.
4. Interview questions and a simple screening rubric assessing mission alignment, availability, and follow-through.
5. An onboarding checklist and first-90-day expectations.
The founder will be the project contact and provide the mission, program overview, current board information, draft budget, and available governance materials. Success means having a practical process to identify and evaluate committed candidates. This project creates the recruitment plan and materials; it does not require the consultant to fill board seats or personally join the board.
