We are seeking initial HR support to help us lay a solid foundation for the continued growth of our organization, The 15 White Coats. As a nonprofit working to increase representation in medicine through education, mentorship, and literacy, we have rapidly expanded in program scope, staff, and volunteer engagement. With this growth, we recognize the urgent need to establish clear, compliant, and values-aligned HR systems.

During this 60-minute call, we would like to discuss the following:

1. Clarifying Employee vs. Contractor Classifications – We need guidance on best practices for determining proper worker classification, particularly for remote team members located in different states. We want to avoid misclassification while maintaining flexibility and compliance.

2. Developing a Foundational HR Framework – We would like help brainstorming the core HR components we should prioritize, such as onboarding processes, job descriptions, performance evaluations, and employee handbooks. We’d also love recommendations for scalable tools and systems appropriate for our current phase of growth.

3. Creating a Supportive and Compliant Remote Work Policy – As most of our team works remotely, we’re looking for expert input on shaping a policy that balances accountability, communication expectations, and legal requirements.

4. Establishing Organizational Culture Through HR Practices – We want our HR structure to reflect our mission-driven values, including equity, psychological safety, and transparency. We’d appreciate thought partnership on integrating these principles into our everyday practices, especially as we grow our team.

We currently have a few staff members and contractors, but we’re building toward a more structured HR approach that can support future hires and growing programming. We’d be grateful for guidance from an HR professional with nonprofit experience who can help us avoid common pitfalls and design people-centered systems from the start.
