My goal for this Taproot Plus session is to get guidance on setting up a checking account for my new nonprofit organization in the EdTech space. I don’t currently have any funding and need help determining the best bank or credit union for nonprofits—ideally one with low or no fees. I’d also like to understand what information and documents I need to bring when opening the account, and how to deposit initial funds to cover startup costs like registering with the Charities Bureau.

Black History Class is a nonprofit EdTech platform dedicated to educating, empowering, and inspiring students of all backgrounds through accessible, high-quality multimedia content focused on Black history and culture. Our mission is to bridge the gaps in traditional curricula by providing comprehensive, inclusive, and engaging educational resources that highlight the achievements, contributions, and challenges of Black individuals throughout history. Aimed primarily at Gen Z students aged 12–18, as well as educators seeking supplementary materials, the platform features an interactive video library, quizzes, project ideas, and lesson plans designed to make Black history more visible, relevant, and inspiring for today’s learners.
