Handicapped Veterans Association seeks a volunteer WordPress developer to help turn our documented website requirements and approved designs into functional, user-friendly pages. We need additional development support to move these projects forward. The volunteer will work with our Chief Technology Officer, Fokrule, to define a manageable set of pages and features, build responsive layouts, customize themes or functionality where needed, and follow HVA’s branding and design guidelines. We are looking for practical WordPress development experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work from written requirements and collaborate with our team. Scope, milestones, and time commitment will be agreed upon before work begins.
By the end of the project, we want an agreed set of WordPress pages and features completed, tested, and approved by our CTO.Deliverables will include responsive page layouts that work on desktop and mobile devices; implementation of approved content, designs, and required functionality; testing and correction of issues within the agreed scope; and concise documentation explaining the changes and how our team can maintain them. The volunteer will complete a technical handoff with the CTO. HVA will provide the relevant project documentation, approved content and designs, necessary website access, and timely feedback.
Success means HVA has reliable, easy-to-use website pages that help veterans, volunteers, and supporters find information and connect with our organization. We will know the project is complete when the agreed pages and features pass desktop and mobile testing, receive CTO approval, and can be maintained by our team using the handoff documentation. This work will strengthen our outreach and support HVA’s mission of helping veterans reconnect, rebuild camaraderie, and access a supportive community.

HVASocial™ is a HIPAA-compliant, member-based social and advocacy platform operated by the Handicapped Veterans Association that places suicide prevention at the center of its mission. The program supports prevention efforts by promoting the VA S.A.V.E. framework and expanding public awareness through direct outreach in everyday community settings, including staffed event tables at retail locations such as Walmart, and other high-traffic venues. In addition, HVASocial strengthens protective factors by rebuilding veteran community and camaraderie through peer interaction and coordinated online and in-person events. Together, these activities extend VA suicide-prevention initiatives beyond clinical environments, increase early recognition of risk, and improve connection to appropriate VA and community-based support resources.
